"Checklist: quarterly Social Security declaration without mistakes"

Before the deadline: 7 checks

The quarterly declaration is filed at Segurança Social Direta by the last day of January, April, July and October. Before submitting, run through this list:

1. Total every receipt from the quarter

Include all recibos verdes issued in the 3 months — even small amounts. Mistake #1 is forgetting one receipt.

2. Confirm your relevant income

For services, that's 70% of gross. Have this number ready before opening the portal.

3. Check whether to adjust your bracket

If income rose or fell more than 25% vs. the previous quarter, consider requesting the adjustment.

4. Have your NISS ready

Your Social Security identification number is asked at the start of the process.

5. File at the right portal

Segurança Social Direta (app.seg-social.pt) — not the Finanças portal.

6. Save the receipt

After submitting, download the PDF confirmation. Keep it at least 5 years.

7. Schedule the payment

Filing is one thing, paying is another: contributions are paid between the 10th and 20th of the following month (August: until the 31st).

Fines for missing it

  • Late declaration: €50 to €250
  • Non-payment: interest + fine

Tip: FiscalPiloto alerts you at 14, 7, 2 and 0 days before every deadline and pre-fills the values to declare — just copy them into the portal.
